Advent 3

Introduction

Today we hear more about the prophet John the Baptist. He came to tell people about a great light that would soon to be seen in the world. John said he was not the light. The light was Jesus, the light of the world. May we always stand in his light, and let nothing come between us and Jesus, so that we might shine His light into the world today.

We continue to light the Advent Candles today. The candles symbolize the prayer, penance, and preparatory sacrifices and good works undertaken at this time, and our preparation and longing for Christ. The third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete Sunday or Rejoice Sunday, marking a midpoint in Advent. We rejoice as we journey forward in hope and longing expectation for our Lord’s first coming into the world and for His second coming to judge the living and the dead. We pray that he will bring forth his eternal reign of justice, peace and eternal life, and in the meantime be repentant and open that we might make a straight path for him to come to us in our daily lives.

Reflection during Holy Communion or at home.

Let us rejoice as we journey forward in hope and longing expectation for our Lord’s first coming into the world and for His second coming to judge the living and the dead. We pray that he will bring forth his eternal reign of justice, peace and eternal life. Let in the meantime hear and respond to John’s cry, ‘Repent!Make straight the way of the Lord’ into our hearts, our minds, every aspect of our Monday morning and every day of our lives.
