A Royal Connection

Between 1928 - 1934, the Vicar of St Mark's was Rev. Harold William Bradfield, B.D. before he became secretary of the Canterbury Diocesan Board of Finance. In 1934 he was appointed an Honorary Canon of Canterbury Cathedral. He became Archdeacon of Croydon in 1942 and was appointed Lord Bishop of Bath and Wells in 1946.

By ancient rite, 1189, the Bishops of Durham and Bath & Wells support the Soverign at the Coronation Ceremony in Westminster Abbey. Bishop Bradfield fulfilled this role at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2nd June 1953.
